By request, I am publishing the two addresses made at the conferences held in San Francisco and Los Angeles in 1930.

My hope is that this volume may prove as useful in arousing the reader to a more vigorous understanding of Christian Science and a deeper appreciation of Science and Health, as has ‘The Line of Light,” published in 1929, thus corroborating Mrs. Eddy’s statement in the Preface to Science and Health, that, “A few books, . . . based on this book are useful.”

In preparing the addresses for publication, I have tried to avoid duplication as much as seemed wise.

Also, by request, I am including a letter written to a friend in December, 1929, which has already been freely circulated and is thought to be helpful.

Mr. Eustace also states in Chronological Data (CCT-OV*, page 997):

The second unfoldment of the contents of the One Volume* came as the result of meetings held in San Francisco and Los Angeles in 1930. The subjects under consideration there, were “Your Power and Dominion” and “Do you say, There is no God?” These, together with “A Letter,” were combined in the book published in 1931. None of these titles took its name until after the meeting involved.

The “Letter” was written to thrash out thoroughly the belief of the law of relapse, which was appearing in attacks, throughout the world, on Mrs. Eddy as to the genuineness of her authorship of Science and Health-after that canard had been handled and wiped out years before. The “Letter” was successful, as all attacks on those lines subsided and vanished into their native nothingness, as all lies do when rightly faced. The wide-awake Christian Scientist-and there is no other-knows full well that once a claim of any kind is exposed and met in Christian Science and destroyed by translating it back to its origin, any subsequent appearing of the same symptoms is not the original claim reappearing but is instead, pure hypnotic suggestion operating as the negation of the law of progress, which every case of healing in Christian Science spontaneously is. It must be handled as such, pure hypnotic suggestion, nothing to do with matter or material beliefs about matter.

[*CCT-OV refers to “Christian Science Its ‘Clear Correct Teaching’ and Complete Writings”. OV is another name for The “One Volume” of the above-mentioned book.]
